Product Description

We’ve outdone ourselves with the 7 pin version of our lock picking practice locks – The Ultimate Adversary Practice Lock.  Pin stack retainer screws make it easy re-key this lock cylinder millions of different key combinations for millions of different lock picking challenges. An assortment of more than 100 extra bottom pins, top pins, master pins, and springs is included.

This 7-pin version of our practice lock also includes three different types of security pins:  spool pins, serrated pins, and T-pins.  Also included is a 5 pin demonstration key with it’s own pins to let the beginner demonstrate a lock’s normal operation before re-pinning the  lock for lock picking.

The key way is a Schlage C, also commonly called SC1.  This key way offers more challenge than our 5 pin practice lock but is not especially difficult to work in.

The assortment of spool, serrated, and T-pins will help you to learn to overcome pick resistant cylinders.  Special security pins are becoming more common every year.  A decade ago, security pins were rare.  Today, even some of the cheapest hardware store brands include security pins to make them pick resistant. Most locksmiths never develop the skills to consistently open these locks. With practice, you can learn to consistently open even pick resistant locks.

Thousands of our practice locks have been used to master the skill of lock picking in over 40 countries.

Got into lock sport a few months ago, picked a few locks. Had troubles with some locks. After buying the 7 pin ultimate adversary lock I practiced with a few of the security pins with success. Now the locks I had trouble with before seem alot easier. This product is well worth the money. And thanks to Bosnianbill, without whom I would never have known that this practice lock even existed.

I have recently got into lock picking, this 7 pin training lock is really worthy , my skills had improved drastically with 2 hours of practice , I might suggest instructions for a complete procedure from simple to most complex pins positions in order to reach the best possible results

Requested this as a Christmas gift. It did not come with a 7pin key, no Allen wrench and the screws to rekey/pin are locked solid. Not happy. I bought the 5 key pin that is amazing. This one though, not happy. Need to return it. It’s faulty on so many levels. I was so excited to try it and make a huge jump in my picking skills. Just nothing went right in this order.

      Hi Ryan:
Sorry you weren’t happy with your lock. I rarely comment on reviews because, good or bad, I think it’s fair to let the customer’s share their opinions. In this case, I do want to mention two things. The first is that our 7 pin locks ship with a 5 pin demonstration key and that is clearly stated in the product description. The second is that the cam screws on the 7 pin lock are not to be removed. What makes our lock unique is that you can re-pin the lock pin-stack by pin-stack by removing retaining screws instead of doing it the more difficult traditional way. That said, if you aren’t happy with your lock, we’ll be happy to do a return/refund. Please email us at sales@learnlockpicking.com with an order number or some other information that will help us to find your order and we will send you the information to do a return.

I bought this as a gift for my boyfriend as he’s recently got into lock picking and I saw this product reviewed on Bosnianbill’s YouTube channel. So far my boyfriend has really enjoyed challenging himself with building the lock, would recommend.

Great practice lock kit here. You can find cheaper locks and make your own practice lock with just a few tools but the quality of this surpasses what most of us can do at home. The pins included and tighter keyway makes this perfect for someone with high beginner to low intermediate skill.

  6. 5 out of 5

    (verified owner):

Well made, tight tolerances, and easy to rekey. I’ve been using it to try to learn the feel of serrated pins because they always seem to give me trouble. You’re probably going to need a .015 pick to fit the keyway if you don’t have one already. Would also be nice if there was an option to add tweezers.

    (verified owner):

A great bit of kit. I love the added challenges. Wide variety of combinations and pin types, with a nice key way to keep you focused. Having 7 pins to work with is also a nice feature. Quality is top notch, great pricing and with only 9 days from the US to Australia, what more could you ask for? Highly recommend this to anyone looking for a bit more of a challenge.

So, I him-hawed and waited for over 4 months before I bought this lock. I shouldn’t have, it’s great. I am an average picker I’ve opened a few padlocks with security spools but had not yet run into a serrated pin in a lock. Using this I got this to see what that would be like. I picked it straight away as shipped with just standard pins. The key way is a bit paracentric and that added just a bit of a challenge with the .025 picks that I have. I then gutted the lock and put one single serrated pin in the first position. That allowed me to get the feel just like they advertise, I played with that for about 30 minutes and repined the lock to the key with on serrated pin in the mix of standard ones. It was like I was a noob all over again, I think it took me over an hour to get the lock open and I had only changed one pin! After that I put a second serrated pin in and have been working on it on and off for over an hour without success. I am impressed by how much I will be able to learn from this lock. When I purchased it I accidentally used the wrong account to pay for it and got hit with an overdraft but I would do it again because I feel like the value is well worth it. Oh and like a lot of folks here, I found this via BosnianBill’s YouTube channel. Thanks again Learn Lockpicking for providing an awesome product!

    (verified owner):

Good quality, not the lock to end them all.
It certainly is a good lock and easy to repin. You’ll have to have a basic understanding of how locks and pins work to first pin it and get started. The keyway is also fairly tight for american locks so it’s a good practice for european ones but may still not be the best to get started. Try and and get yourself 1-2 easier padlocks with open keyways to begin with. ALSO: Get yourself Top of the keyway (TOK) tensioning tools, as the core will otherwise bind fairly often leaving you confused with the concept of tensioning and the right amount.

Perfect learning tool for a beginner like me. So far i’ve picked 4 different setups and every time it’s been completely different experience. All the security pins can make a really challenging pick, and i’d suggest sticking to standards for starter, and maybe adding one serrated once you feel like getting a little more challenge.
Can full heartedly recommend this, the quality is great, and the combinations are practically infinite. Shipping was also very fast, and it took just over a week to get to here in Finland.
    5/5 would buy again!

Absolutely love it, after I saw the review in BosnianBill’s channel I bought it as my very first lock. Love the fact that it’s challenging and contains so many different types of security pins. If you want to practice locksport look no further, after this other locks get easier. It shouldn’t be your ONLY practice lock but it’s definitely a great asset to a beginner!

Love it. Bought after watching the BosnianBill review and I find it a challenging and great way to learn. I am up to 3 pins and growing. I have a Master #3 a #140 and this is leagues more challenging. Keyway is tight and great to learn on.
Easy to rekey, comes with tons of standard and security pins.

Awesome practice tool. I was a little worried that the quality may not be great, but I was wrong. Excellent quality!
This tool allows for training from knowing nothing to being an expert. I love the color coating on the pins. The set that matches the included key, allows you to practice creating a key from a sample or photo.

This set has something for everyone, and tons of extra parts to keep you entertained. The keyway is very tight, as well, which works great for me (as I need more practice on tight keyways).

Love it, would definitely buy again. Definitely worth the money, as it takes the place of a lot of practice locks.

Each pin can be repinned separately at any time. A good amount of spare parts comes included too. Stress free, well worth the money.
Also, colour-coding the pins by type is a brilliant idea.

Heard about this lock from Bosnianbill / LockLab. For what I’m doing, I could have went with any of these locks, but chose the 7 pin because it has the Schlage keyway. The other two have something else. Most of the locks I deal with are Schlage, so this lock allows me to experiment with several dozen different keys that I already have. It is extremely easy to repin and rekey using the top of cylinder plugs. Of course you can also remove the core if you want. Out of all of the other practice locks I have acquired, this is now my primary practice lock. I also went ahead and got the security pin upgrade. I can and will recommend this training tool to anyone I know is looking for one. Great product!

This thing is not for everyone! This is a very difficult keyway so you might want one of the easier keyways to start. They include a lot of different pins and springs. You might be surprised how much difference a spring can make. Great for progressive picking. Good for learning security pins. I bought mine for that primary purpose. Sadly no mushroom pins or pin in pins. I’ll have to get those separately. ;(

Being new to locksport I bought this practice lock seeing that it would provide a great deal of practice across all skill levels. I have not had it long but I really like it. The ease of changing the pins is great, no need to have a follow through tool for removing the core. Clearly high quality and I love the abundance of pins that come with it. I look forward to MANY hours of practice and skill improvement. Kudos!

    (verified owner):

I was actually surprised at how much more came with the lock than I expected. So far, using the default pin-set that matches the key, I have picked it only twice… it is really easy to overset the key pins into the bible and, perhaps it comes with learning, but I do not feel anything like I always hear LPL and BB talking about as far the core responding when a pin is set. I hope it is me and not something with the lock itself.

However, I think, for someone just learning, this is not the easiest keyway as you do have to insert the pick at an angle for longer-set pins as it is not open.

I look forward to the day I can create a little program that tells me what pins to use for a daily challenge-lock system. I certainly have more than I should ever need to create endless possible skill-tests.

After watching BosnianBill’s channel and his thorough explanation on why this practice lock is worth getting, I ordered it. I’m really enjoying my 7 pin practice lock. I heard about it through Bosnia Bill’s Locklab..com .
He recommended it for his free lock picking course. I’m just starting out and I bought a cheap pick
set with lots of picks and several see through training locks. Then I started buying old padlocks
from antique shops and markets. When I found this lock with variable difficulty I went for it, and
am very pleased. Of course I bought a quality pick set as I started figuring out that I really enjoy
this. I’m pretty comfortable with 4 pins and now I’m deciding whether to add another pin or
throw a spool in. The choices are all there with this great practice lock. Thanks Learnlockpicking.com !!

As a new Locklab tribe member, I reached out to Bosnianbill. I asked for my money as new to the locking picking spot what would be my best practice lock to buy. He told me, he would buy the 7-pin ultimate advacary practice lock. So I did, it’s worth the money you spend on it. Great workmanship, seem to be made from good quality materials. It has a good assortment of pins and hardware included. It’s easy to pin up and as your skill level grows. All the hard work in done for you with the set screws per tapped in the bible to make it easier to re-pin the lock. I know from reading other reviews from the past with some lower rating that the problems they were having seem to be addressed by Ryan and staff. In the future when I’m ready to start building my own challenge locks I will be starting with a couple of more. I look forward to dealing with learnlickpicking.com in the future as they build their company.

I received the 7 Pin Ultimate Adversary Practice Lock as a gift for my birthday. I’ve been using a variety of padlocks to learn how to pick for a while and it is clear after a couple days that the 7 Pin Lock allows the picker to feel the pin state a lot easier than I ever experienced in a padlock. Combine that with how easy it is to repin with the wide selection pins it comes with and it is clear this is a training lock that any aspiring lock picker should add to their collection.

Great practice lock. Very forgiving. It’s been much easier to open than an actual padlock because of the large keyway. It allows me to feel rewarded as my skills develop and tailor the difficulty with the number of pins.

It’s exactly what you would expect. The lock is well made in America and it comes with more pins than i could ever use. The package arrived quickly and in good condition. Everything is wrapped separately (replacement pins, keys with matching pins, and lock) so it’s easy to get a working pickable lock in minutes.

Had to scroll for miles to write a review there is so many. Can you put this review box at the top, above the reviews?
Anyway, how about another 5 stars.
This practice lock (7pin) is really awesome. If your looking to learn, buy this practice lock. The keyway is tight and that should be understood that it takes thinner picks. It came with a bag full of pins and springs and that really helps me understand how a lock works.
The best part, MADE IN THE USA!
This is the best investment a beginner can make. And it’s affordable.

  45. 5 out of 5

    (verified owner):

A nice package with a good assortment of driver pins, springs, security pins, and set screws.

As has been mentioned the keyway is an small schlage.
(My shorter Euro picks fit this well)

Also stamped on the barrel is A 156 (ansi 156) – I’d be interested what grade rating this lock received. If it is a Grade 1 lock I would be very, very impressed.

The cylinder is cut shallow, so the included springs for the key will jut above the holes. You have to hold the set screw as you depress the springs to engage the threads.

Most practice locks come with a 6 pin key bitting. This comes with a 5 pin stack setup.

It is priced very close to the competition.
Shipping was very fast. Fours days from order to my door.

What will separate this from any other 7 stack lock is how long it will last before the cylinders are enlarged by the constant manipulation.

Overall – very pleased. Thank you.
    I’ll update if able.

This is an amazing lock and very well constructed made in america. I am new to lock picking and read multiple reviews before purchasing this lock. It teaches you to either pick off the left side warding or with enough practice the bottom of the keyway with a .015 or if youre really really good a .013, but the bottom kinda robs you of your feedback which can also be annoying but a great teacher. It is an SC1 keyway. I recommend to anyone novice or expert that this is the lock to start with. It comes with a bag of pins with spools, serrated pins, springs, and everything you need so that you can rekey and repin as you graduate in skill. I recommended starting with 2 pins and working your way up as you get better. Im currently trying to work on 3 spool pins and its kicking my butt. If you have trouble with tight keyways then this might not be the lock for you. I’d tell you to buy the 6 and the 7 together as the 6 has a wider keyway and only spools, so once you master that you can graduate to the 7 pin and not only master spools, but serrated pins as well. My only complaint is not about quality, but the fact that they should also offer different styles of keyways that are interchangeable and also offer a paracentric one, maybe even throw in a model with side bars. Again I recommend this lock as a first for anyone if you’re trying to master lock picking as using the 7 first with a tight keyway will make wider keyways easier, But if you’re already having trouble with tight keyways then I recommend buying the 6 and the 7 together and starting with the 6 and graduating to the 7. Either way if you buy the 6 or the 7 pin you will NOT be disappointed!!! Hope you have as much fun with it as I have been!

As many others have said… this is a great lock for folks new to lock picking. I started off with just one pin and am now working on four pins. I also picked up a Sparrows Cut-Away lock and I pin them exactly the same. There are still a few differences, binding order the most significant, but it’s great to have one lock to see what’s happening and the other lock – this lock – to really practice on.

  53. 5 out of 5

    (verified owner):

This is a very good practice lock. Even if you are just starting out you might as well spend the few extra dollars and get the 7-pin lock. It’s extremely smooth and comes with enough pins to get you started. If you want more I would recommend the reload kit from sparrow paired with this lock. If you’re learning security pins this is an excellent tool, just only fill one chamber with the security pin you want to learn to isolate the feeling of the feedback. There are virtually limitless possibilities of combinations and I would highly recommend this product for any novice or expert lock picker. The restrictive key way is only a minor bump to get over and you might as well learn now rather than buy multiple practice locks. Very high quality product I use it everyday.

This is wonderfully constructed and works superbly, but…

The keyway is very narrow as compared to the larger size of the five and six pin locks. They all work in a similar fashion, (almost infinitely changeable pins, smooth operation, big enough for hand work but small enough for any small vice). Due to the keyway’s narrow opening, I found it too difficult for me to really learn on. The starting curve was just too steep for me.

The only other change is the addition of the seventh position, which adds a new level of course.

I have experience and success with regular padlocks that have wandered my way, but wanted to get materially and demonstrably better. So I bought this, and it just didn’t do it for me. It was just too difficult (for ME. You may be better or more instinctive or whatever).

So, I bought the six pin lock which is just as well constructed, and the larger keyway has enabled me to climb up in skill. When I have mastered the six, I have the seven waiting, which will be a good and appropriate jump in difficulty.

Again, let me be perfectly clear. This is an amazingly designed and produced practice lock that is very, very hard. For ME. If you are an newbie or amateur, I strongly suggest you get the six and seven at the same time.

You can take what you have learned from the six and apply it to the seven, using the seven to hone whatever skill you have mastered on the six. I’ve just started it, and the method works. It’s painful due to my poor ability, but nothing cements a skill by first mastering it and then dropping a higher level of complexity on top of it.

You can’t go wrong with the six or seven, just know the difference. Remember that if you are a talented amateur, you can get the seven immediately and just put in a few pins to start.

All of these locks can be downright evil if filled with safety pins.

Lock picking is not a hobby for the easily distracted or discouraged. But if you want to get into this very rewarding hobby, I cannot recommend either the six and the seven more.

This is an outstanding product. Flawless construction, extremely well thought out, sized well for handheld or fixed (in a vice) practice…
How about a version with a paracentric keyway?

The lock is great, delivery fast – there is nothing more to say. But why is everything smelling like produced in a parfum factory? Parcel in and outside, lock, even the bags with pins? This was some kind of universal challenge for my nose ;-)

Totally worth the money. I️ started with this lock nearly cold turkey and it made life so much easier. I couldn’t figure out bok tensioning because it locked up too bad so i just went straight for tok. NOT TOO DIFFICULT FOR A BEGINNER.

    Great lock for practicing.
Only downside is that the wrench gets caught in the body of the lock and makes it immovable. The only way I have found a way to deal with this is to tilt the wrench up which then makes it much harder to pick and will occasionally slip back where it should be, meaning you have to start over again.

This is a great product for people who have some practice on lock picking. It offers great variety from simple lock to all the way to extremely challenging combinations of security pins.
However if you are a completely new to lock picking I would recommend picking up either 5-pin or 6-pin versions of this lock because this version has somewhat restricted key way, and when you are new to this hobby you have enough to learn without also having to fight the key way.

5/5 for people with some experience.
4/5 for complete beginners because of the key way.

Great practice tool but the wrench gets caught in the body of the lock, making it hard to pick spool pins. Wondering if anything can solve that.

Once you pick a few off-the-shelf locks, getting something like this just makes sense. You can pin it to be as difficult or as easy as you’d like. The quality is amazing. I’ve had zero issues with fit or finish.

Really enjoying its ease is use. Drawback; there is no wear when you get it. Everything is sharp and crisp. If you have been working with old castoff locks for training the feel is going to be much different. Be prepared to use some type of dry lube.

A very good practice lock for the money. You can buy mortise locks cheaper, however, they take much longer to re-pin. This lock is extremely quick to re-pin. It allows from 1 pin to 7 pins. I would definitely recommend this lock. However, I do have a few complaints / concerns. First, I seem to have some trouble tensioning this lock. I continually get snagged at the bottom of the keyway, lock body. I have been working around this. Another issue, I have noticed, is that you do not recieve many different sizes of key pins. I only recieved 5 sizes. I know Schlage has 9. The remedy for this would be to buy a LAB brand pinning kit. This would give me all the key pin variations to allow for more challenges.
Overall a very good lock, though.

Hi John: including the two sizes of spool pins and the two sizes of serrated pins, our pin kits should include at least 14 different lengths of top, botton, and master pins.

This is amazing to learn lockpicking! 2 weeks ago i could not spp the easiest of locks. Now i am already picked 6 pins all spools with 1 being standard. A must buy if you want to learn lock picking. The ability to re-pin and the assortment of standard and security pins, plus all the extra springs is more than worth the price. The keyway is fairly narrow, which does pose more of a challenge. I would say this lock is good for beginners to experienced pickers.

Service very fast to Spain. Lock already hard to open it a bit with only two pins. Noto fairly low tolerance to be a lock of practice by is a challenge with a few pins and not too much difference in height between them. Bring many materials in order to change the configuration of the lock

Just missing you can distribute the rest of material to Spain

I tried some of the acrylic locks from another manufacturer, and quickly found there was no challenge to them. Even blacking out the clear bodies was a wasted effort. Now THIS one! THIS is a lock worthy of the name. I’ve taken a number of old keys and keyed them all to this lock, so now I have a selection of pin combinations with real world keys to use them with. Now I’m creating a master/sub-master/working key combination so there are three keys that all work the lock at the same time. We’ll then see how easy three shear lines are to pick.

Can’t do THAT with an acrylic practice lock, now can you?

Discovered this thanks to BosniaBill and it lives up to his review and then some. I can’t speak highly enough of this, it’s perfect for anyone from beginner to pro with it’s easily adjustable difficulty.
The (Schlage) keyway is curved just enough to force picking from the left edge, adding to the difficulty, which may put some people off, but I have found other locks way easier to pick after spending many hours picking this lock.
Key pins sit fairly low compared to some other Schlage’s, making it difficult to get deeper hooks to the back under tension, but again I see this as a bonus making it more challenging. Switching out springs or pins is extremely quick and easy, and can be pinned up to make even the best pickers struggle. Really good selection of pins to choose from, lots of security pins to choose from with varying sizes. Includes extra springs and alan screws in case you lose anything.
Great product, shipped quickly (4 days) to western Canada, no complaints. Thank you LearnLockPicking for making such an awesome lock!

    G’day from Down Under,
This is a great training lock for anyone just starting out or after a challenge to hone your skills.
do the job right, and do it once you can add or remove pins but you can’t add chambers.
Well worth the International shipping costs considering the cost of a good lock from the ones available down here and then to machine it into a training lock and buy a pinning kit or finding a good locksmith to get a handful of pins.

Reviewed from box to 7 mixed pins picked open. Rock solid lock, Finished off nicely with a very smooth Schlage core with tight tolerances, easy access for re-pinning and a nice selection of pins, wafers and drivers.
I would definitely order a security pin upgrade kit or 2 for those extra pins, springs and wafers for custom keyed challenge locks, Upgrading your existing locks or when a Damn pin shoots across the room and goes under the furniture, don’t laugh it does happen.

Could do with a few more key pin sizes and wafers for key matching or mastering, but nothing a fine file and a drill can’t fix.

Thank you to the team at learnlockpicking.com for a quality product.

Very nice lock. I’m glad I bought it. Even though shipping and duty is kind of expensive, you’ll have saved a lot of money seeing that the pinning options are basically limitless. I could buy 2 Yale 90SS for the same price, but that would only give me 2 standard pins and 10 spools.

    (verified owner):

The lock itself is nice but I need to point out several features that left me partly unsatisfied:

    – First of all and most importantly I am not capable of tensioning this lock from the bottom of the keyway since the tension bar clutches to the body of the lock, although this could possibly be overcome by a different tension wrench from the one I have;
    – The key provided with the lock is a 5-pin key, while I would have expected a 7-pin key (although the pictures provided do show the key);
    – The cost of this lock, already quite expensive, becomes significantly higher when you add up international shipping (no tracking provided) and custom duties (a total of around 100€ for me);
    – I would have liked a higher variety of pins, to include e.g. T-pins, etc.

Apart from the above the lock itself is ok.

I bought a 7-pin version from across the pond and it has helped me immensely in my quest to learn picking locks. You get tons of various security pins and a bunch of springs as well, this lock will keep challenging you for a long time.
If there is one thing they could add it would be a better instruction regarding how to rekey the lock and how to fit it to the accompanying key, I lost a spring doing it incorrectly.
Additional things I’d like included would be a small pair of tweezers to handle the pins easier and maybe a screwdriver to extract the core but that would just be icing on the cake, for the price you’re paying you could not ask for more.
Over all I’m more than happy with this lock, GREAT product.
    Cheers from Sweden.

Top of the line product! The best! Beautiful machining, clean fit, all professional all the way! More pin, driver, security and spacer, spring selections than can be used in a life time.

I set up with the pin selection provided with the coded key and had a wonderful time! Then played with some of the different selections, all excellent!

My grandson (9 years of age) was here over the holiday and I set the lock back to the original code and showed him how the key worked and how he could open the lock without the key. In less than 5 minute of instruction he was raking and rocking the lock open consistently.

My only hindsight error was not in asking if this was also available with a less challenging keyway core to aid in teaching single pin picking. That would be a great addition!

Thank you for such a great tool!!

    (verified owner):

Originally I was VERY pleased with this training lock, and would have given it a solid 5 star rating, but I have noticed something that is unsettling, and quite odd.

It is a schlage SC1 keyway, and the 5 pins they send you to match the key in a little baggy are standard schlage sized pins. The rest of the pins are NOT standard schlage sized pins, and so you cannot use them to pin the lock to the key, nor to other standard schlage keys. Not only that but there are 9 sizes to the standard schlage set of lower pins, this set(and the security pin upgrade set) only includes 5 sizes of lower pins(which only ONE of them match standard schlage sizes, the #3, no other pins provided match schlage pin sizing).

To be clear, I recieved 5 different sizes of lower pins, from smallest to largest I have 0.170, 0.190, 0.210, 0.230, and 0.250 inch pins that were included in this pin set, and the security upgrade pin set. Note, ONLY 0.210 is an actual standard schlage pin size, according to the schlage site.

I feel I have gone on long enough to get my point across. I just wish that the pins provided actually fit the key provided, or other keys available for this keyway.

    • :

      Hi Nolan:
In the real world, pin depths are not limited to one manufacturer’s bitting and neither are our practice locks. And, I want to mention that our pin assortments are random. I don’t want anyone reading this review to think that the pin lengths listed are necessarily the pin lengths that ship with every lock.

  98. 5 out of 5

    (verified owner):

I’m giving this product 4 stars. I’m going to deduct a star for the price. I’ll add a star back for the large assortment of pins and springs that come with the lock.

The lock body is well tapped and the plugs fit snugly. This is what makes this kit different than other practice locks on the market. You don’t have to have a key to re-pin. So you can really challenge yourself in limitless combinations of pinnings.

I would suggest to learnlockpicking.com that they offer replacement cores. Several hundred picks and the warding will start to wear down. Also, they could offer threaded cores to up the difficulty. Just a suggestion.

I purchased the 7-pin lock with an extra pack of pins. I sorted all the pins into two 7-day pill minders. I share it with a friend as a challenge lock. The deal is, after it is picked, it must be re-pinned and returned to the other person. It has been a great learning experience for us both and well worth the money. This Lock is absolutely amazing.
I was new to lockpicking when i got this lock 2 months ago and i can definetly say this lock increased my learning curve a lot.
Being a beginner Lockpicker can be frustrating since the only way to practice are locks that are obviously not supposed to be picked.
Living in Austria, i wasnt able to get my hands on a Lock without security pins to start with. I got myself an 5 Pin Abus with Spool pins. It seemed impossible for me to pick this thing.
Once i got my practice lock i started practicing on Spool pins right away.
I was surprised at how much fun picking this lock is! It’s addicting!
Once i was up to i think 5 Spool pins on my practice lock i tried to pick my abus again. And guess what? I was able to open it in like 2 minutes.

For me this lock is not only a great trainer. It also keeps me motivated when other locks get me frustrated. I have no doubt this Lock alone can make one a great lockpicker.

Being new to lock picking I wanted to invest wisely. This lock can be adjusted to your level of skill with an allen wrench, two pins and a spring. You can choose between standard pins, spool pins and serrated pins. You can choose the number of pins from one to seven and use any combination of number and type. It really is simple to use. I’ve moved up from picking one pin to four pins now, only standard so far for me. If you lose a pin or spring there are replacements already supplied in your original package. The lock is constructed well, like you would expect for about $50. It’s solid and heavy for its size. I have no regret after practicing with this lock. My money was well spent.

Love this lock. First time picking with it. One thing that concerns me. With my bkw tension wrench it seems to snag on something while picking and dosnt want to open. And I know it will because when I move the lever on the back. It swings open no problem. When I hold the wrench a little higher it works perfectly. So maybe user error. Idk a lot of what I’m doing. I’m so new to picking you should probably skip this review. I would recomend getting some tkw tensions. But so far great product. Recommendation would be for the different pins. Have them in different ziplocks. I ended up sorting all of them into a 7 day pill divider. Over all. I’m really happy to get it. And I think you should get one too!!!

Brilliant. I have done lock picking on a number of locks before, but the keyway on this knocks you for six. This is because it is a more restrictive keyway, this means when you get good on this more open keyways will be easy. Brilliant for novice and expert alike. And the fact there are so many possible ways to change the experience included in the package just makes it even better. Would definitely recommend this lock.

Great product with quick shipping. I am a beginner and thought about getting the 5 or 6 pin version. I’m glad I didn’t. Go ahead, spend the extra 20 bucks or so and get this one. It comes with everything you need to get you started except picks and patience. Your gonna need plenty of patience because once you throw more than 5 pins in this thing it gets tough. I can’t even imagine doing 7 with all security pins. Great product though and I would recommend it to anyone who wants to learn lockpicking. Buy a thin hook and a diamond pick from a reputable manufacture along with a good top of keyway tension tool along with this practice lock and your ready. That will be everything you need to provide an unlimited amount of practice and you won’t have 20 other useless picks laying around. Make sure you get thin picks though because this thing is tight. They should actually sell what I just described as a beginner kit and it would sell like hotcakes! Maybe throw in a good Bogota rake and you would be set for a long time.

Great product. Very easy to rekey. Great selection of security pins. I really love it. Note that the keyway is more challenging than I was expecting. I am a beginner/intermediate picker and just recently have been able to consistently and quickly pick easy locks (master, quikset, etc). This lock was a bit of a jump! The keyway is hard, kind of paracentric. I am learning fast though and love the ability to easily rekey with as few or as many pins as I need for practice!

Great service by the staff here before purchasing, arrived in Australia much quicker than expected as well. Well priced, only down side is shipping to this part of the world.

To start with I pinned it up to match the key and because of the excellent tolerances it took me quite a few minutes to SPP the standard pins. I just pinned up spool, regular, spool and I can really feel the counter rotation from the spools after getting a false set. Taking around 5 minutes each time to pick 3 pins I can see this lock is going to help build my skills for a long time to come. Now onto serrated pins… :)

    (verified owner):

Amazing quality! I have purchased other practice locks with changeable pins for not much less, and this far exceeds them all in a big way. It really is amazing the effort taken to drill and tap these locks. The fit and finish is almost art. The assortment of security pins, you get tons of different security pins, spool and serrated – just to help add more challenge. The tolerances are tight – so someone new to lock picking, even an amateur with experience – is going to find standard pins a challenge at first. I pinned the key, and it took me a several minutes to get a simple 5 pin standard. Add more pins, add security pins, and this really becomes a challenge and a great training lock for learning feel of single pin picking — of course, rake away — but really great helping me with SSP.

It’s rare to find a company that creates a product with this level of quality — I just can’t get over how well put together this entire kit is. Six stars — you need six stars. So glad I saw Bill recommend you guys. Great product!

(ps. willing to pay more for this level of kit. ;) )

Quite long shipping delay for france (between 1 and 2 week), but it is not related to learnlockpicking.com, it is about the delivery service.
The lock is great and looks really robust, easy and fast to change pins and springs.
Comes with a lot pins (+- 12 spool pins, +- 12 seriated pins, other are regular pins), and some springs of differents shapes.
The only thing that could have been better are the small plastic screws, i’d like to have some metal screws, but anyway, the lock come with few extra screw in case you lost or break some.

TLDR: It definitely worth its price (even with the shipping fees).

Excellent craftsmanship, tight tolerances, butter-smooth action with provided key and pins. Easy to swap out to TONS of different pin heights, security pins, stronger/weaker springs, etc. This thing is an excellent buy–easy to carry around and practice on while being extremely versatile and quickly reconfigurable.

If you are thinking about this as a intro-level beginner’s kit, the keyway and tight tolerances are going to make it pretty difficult at first, so start with 2 or 3 regular pins. If you are looking for a challenge though, this lock is definitely cut out to be your ultimate adversary depending on how you key it.

The tolerances in the pin holes on the tumbler/housing are so tight that it’s difficult to tell when I’ve got a pin set. Most locks I’ve practiced on have a noticeable “set” when the pin clears the sheer line, but these are very tough to discern. Other than my own lack of sensitivity, everything else on this lock is high quality. I teach this type of information to people who are at an above-average risk of needing to use it to save their lives, so I’ve seen a lot of other products, and I can honestly say that this is the best practice lock I’ve seen/used.

Some improvements: 1. It would be really cool if this same lock was offered with a clear cut out on one side so you can actually see the pins set. That way you could associate a “feeling” with a set pin. 2. Offer replacement cylinders just like you offer an extra pin set. It would be great to be able to practice on a Kwik, Schlade, etc but only have to swap out the cylinder while still using this same lock housing. 3. Make yourselves easier to find. It took me a while to find you and that was only after I read about this product on a blog that I stumbled upon. I don’t know your business model, but if you sold through Amazon it would be a lot easier to find you guys and I think these would sell like crazy compared to the junk that they currently offer for practice locks.

Customer service: Fast and very accommodating. I lost some parts, and they were replaced virtually immediately.

Don’t bother with any other locks, just get the 5/6/7 pin from LearnLockPicking and you’ll be more than satisfied.

Love the ability to choose how many pins and of which type. A bonus is the tight keyway. If it was a masterlock keyway it wouldn’t be much of a challenge lock. With the spools and serration pins, I’m going to be busy for months. Great kit for passing time on long trips.

I’m new to lock picking and I got to say I’m very impressed with this lock. I’m glad that I found the review for this on BosnianBill’s YouTube channel. This was money well spent as I haven’t put this thing down since I received it a week ago. Thanks for the well engineered product!

The lock is great. I just received it and everything is working. I have, however, a little complaint : I ordered the 7-pin Ultimate Adversary (instead of the other versions) because it would be delivered with spools and serrated pins but, in the assortment of pins I received, there was no spool and only one serrated pin.
That is the reason I can’t put more than 3 stars.

    • :

      Hi Pims:
There should have been an assortment of pins that had roughly ten to twelve of both spool and serrated pins. We don’t count but that’s the typical assortment. We do say in our description that there’s at least one of each type for each pin stack. I’m not sure how your order slipped out without enough pins but we’re sending an envelope of pins to you tomorrow.

Review is at 5/5 mostly because of my own inexperience; If the rating is based on Shipping speed, customer service, quality of item, and how well the item holds up to the description of the seller, then it earned that 5 star.

Ordered three days ago, arrived today. Machining quality is exactly that, quality. Tons of pins to choose from. Only real issue I see is that it’s definetly going to be a challenge working around the keyway. Using this lock though should allow you to learn the pick around the warding pretty quickly!

Great tool for learning to pick locks, whether you’re a beginner or more seasoned lock picker. I bought the 7 pin model and love that I can choose to pin it with one pin in order to get a feel for things, and then later move onto to 7 pins with multiple security features to really test my skills. In my honest opinion, this lock is a much better investment for someone leaning to pick, than going out and buying multiple padlocks etc… For the quality of the lock and the quantity of standard pins and security pins you get, I don’t believe there’s a better deal on the market at this time. If I had to pick something to complain about, and this is really stretching it haha, I would want to see more detailed instructions that explain the color code of the pins. Definitely worthy of 5 stars though and I would highly recommend it to anyone that may be contemplating purchasing a quality learning lock.

Great lock! Its not sloppy its well machined. Big and heavy and easy to hang on to if you dont want to work from a vise. Not to mention, you can pin up as many as you want. If you want to work on spools or serrated and really feel that pin, just put one of those in, and nothing else, boom. Greatest training aid ever.

This is great… it’s so much cheaper than buying a bunch of different locks!

I’m new to picking, but keyed this up using 5 pins and found I could rake it open easily. At first I worried this practice lock was badly machined and easy to pick, until I tried the lock to my front door and it opened! I never expected success so quickly. i look forward to learning different techniques and to trying out the security pins.

my only criticism is that the packaging seemed a little sloppy… all the pins and springs and parts came crammed in a tiny bag. a few of the springs were bent out of shape as a result. but, it came with more than enough spare springs to make up for it.

a card (or even a link to a webpage) explaining the different colors on the pins would be nice too.

but overall it’s a great product, performs exactly as i’d hoped it would, and i’d recommend it to anyone interested in learning to pick!

New lockpicker. Purchased a clear lock on Amazon, it was very poor quality. Opened with only the first 2 pins engaged on the key. This seems like a very high quality lock. I’ve only changed out a few of the pins but it seems moderately easy to do and consistent. Went ahead and ordered the 7 pin because in the bag it comes with, it includes serrated and spool pins.

New to the hobby, have picked up a few practice locks from various vendors and they have all been great but the problem being, once you master it, well……you’ve mastered the lock and it’s difficult without investing in more tools to re-pin them. With the 7 pin Ultimate Practice Lock, you can learn at your own pace and change out the pins with ease very quickly advancing from novice to expert level.

The variety of pins included is perfect to get your feet wet with most standard locks you may encounter and even plenty of pins to create your own monstrosity challenge lock.

    Highly recommend!

Hi Manne: I just sent you an email. I suspect you have some sort of foreign matter between the lock plug and the lock housing. Carefully remove the two screws at the rear of the lock and the plug will slide out of the housing. Clean out any sand or brass particles and I think your problem will be solved. Please let us know if this works for you.

This lock is amazing! The weight of it alone proves it’s quality. I started lock picking as a hobby 6 months ago. I wish I would have known of this product sooner, but instead spent waaay too much money purchasing cheap locks from walmart trying to hone my skill. In my opinion the 7 pin adversary lock is a no brainier it’s allows the user to take the baby steps needed to becoming a master at lock picking and saves the user countless dollars in the process. This is a must have. And the shipping was fast which is awesome for an impatient person like myself. I highly recommend this product!

I only just got into picking, and this is exactly what I was expecting. Easy to re-pin, comes with insane amounts of spare parts and pins (more than enough to use them to create custom pins) and very nice. Out of the box it was pinned very very easily (I raked it open in a few seconds) but that doesn’t really matter since it’s so easy to re-pin.

I’m pinning it up right now with a couple of standards and a serrated so I can practice picking serrated pins! :D

Superior practice lock compaired to anything else I have seen, there isn’t a day, since receving it, that I haven’t used it. However, I did notice a chip taken out of the top, this doesn’t affect the functionality of the lock in anyway it is just a minor eye sore.

An improvment I would like to see is addional plugs with various keyways that would be compatible with the current housing. As a novice picker, I find it hard to get around the keyway with 4 or more pins. I am currently in the process of getting thinner picks to see if this resolves the issue

Overall, I highly recommend this product to anyone who is interested in perfecting their picking skills. I believe this is the best lock I can learn from without spending hundereds of dollers on different locks.

I tried buying a bargain practice lock from eBay. It cost almost as much, didn’t have any driver pins, just enough springs and all the same tension, and had a keyway that was more annoying than challanging. Rekeying was problematic because it didn’t come with any keys to begin with.

This lock (the 7-pin version) arrived quickly. It had a ton of different springs and all manner of security pins. Changing the pins is a snap and it presents a nearly infinite number of combinations. It also comes with a pair of keys so you can re-key it to your heart content. The only improvement might be to include two different keys with the lock, one that works when it arrives and another that would require a different pin pattern.

OK, there’s one other improvment… That I didn’t start out trying to save money and instead went straight for this lock. I would have saved a lot of money.

I’m pretty happy with this product. After starting off on padlocks and switching to this, it helps tremendously for getting the feel for when a pin is picked, and how much tension to use. I’d still be struggling copiously if I was still learning to single pick on padlocks.
After that, the metal’s shiny and looks nice.
I suppose the only criticism I have, is it can require some dexterity to get the pins in the pin holes. I’ve lost a few pins, as the small brass pins blend into with the colour of my carpet. It’s a shame that the pliers used for such a thing is sold separately. Other than that… Good product.

    (verified owner):

It’s a good lock for practicing, after seeing some YouTube videos on how locks look like from the inside it was pretty straight forward rekeying it.
The only two downsides are, that this is a bit heavy, I wasn’t expecting that when I held it for the first time (est. 300gr), but you get used to it after a while.
But the bigger issue that I have is that I managed to ruin a spring in the very first day of using it, and you don’t get too many, I can totally see myself run out of them in a year or so, I would be really glad to see replacement springs, and not a replacement for the whole kit, since the springs are the only part of the kit that has “finite” usage.

    • :

Hi Tom. The secret to protecting your springs is to make sure that your pin stacks are tall enough that the spring never gets within the shear line. You can probe each pin stack with the long end of the Allen wrench to feel if the pin stack is above or below the shear line.

I gave your 7 pin kit a 4 star rating because I would have had a little instruction help about the security pins. I am a very green beginner and a couple of tips would have made it a 5 star prize for me. Don’t get me wrong, I still love it. It is more than I expected. I am still learning and I can’t put it down. It is allowing me to learn good stuff on a higher quality lock. It is not a cheap loose tolerance lock. It is nice and tight and makes a worthwhile challenge, even for a more experienced picker. Thank you for being what you claimed to be. You will be hearing from me for more tools to learn from.

Really fun to play with. Only thing that could be better is rekeying instructions that come with it. I bent 3 springs rekeying using the paper instructions. Watched the rekeying video, and seemed I was doing it right. When I went to the face book page, I finally found out there is a keying chart. The chart should come on the paper instructions.

This lock is definitely worth it. You can really learn how to pick just about every kind of pin, in any specific combination. The lock is easy to rekey, and it is machined well. What a great product for someone who wished to master lock-picking. I was having trouble picking serrated pins, but this lock allowed me to take all the other pins out, and focus on just one at a time. After a while, I added more and more pins to make it harder on myself. Eventually I could pick a 7 pin spool/serrated lock in no time at all. Great product.
